It is not exactly news that Torremolinos has long been a magnet for visitors to the Costa del Sol. It was, after all, one of the first resorts in this part of southern Spain to be developed with the onset of the tourist boom from the mid-20th century, becoming particularly widely recognised for its vibrant and liberal nightlife, including a strong association with the LGBT community.
Well, there is now even better news for those contemplating a visit to Torremolinos any time soon, it having been announced that one of the best-known hotels in the municipality – the Hotel Natali, which first opened in 1973 – is primed for a multimillion-euro modernisation.
What can we expect to change about the popular hotel?
Reporting the news of what is expected to be a €7.5 million project, local news outlet SUR in English said that the three-star hotel was set to be “completely reformed”, and would open its doors again in the spring as part of the Tent hotel chain. That chain, in turn, is owned by the Fergus Group, which recently acquired the premises, marking its first venture in Torremolinos.
When the hotel reopens in April, it will be called Tent Torremolinos, and it is expected to have a completely new look, encompassing such draws as a renovated reception, bar, dining room, gymnasium, lobby, lounges, and laundry facilities.
The hotel comprises some 440 rooms, and since 1994, it has been open all year round, operating as part of the Inerso programme for pensioners during the winter. 120 people are presently employed at the establishment.
Could now be the time to plan your own next visit to the Costa del Sol?
With the Fergus Group already having four-star and five-star hotels in key areas of Mallorca, Catalonia, Ibiza, and Andalucia, there are high hopes for Hotel Natali’s makeover.
In the words of the company itself as it outlined its most recent purchase, Fergus “is known for the Mediterranean essence and casual lifestyle in all its hotels, and is a hotel chain that guests like to return to time and time again.”
Here at Simply Shuttles, we will certainly watch this development with interest, particularly given what a great base Torremolinos represents for broader sightseeing in Andalucia.
