Aqualand Torremolinos is getting a massive 40th-anniversary renovation!

The Costa del Sol’s biggest waterpark, Aqualand Torremolinos has established its reputation as the stuff of legend over the decades, since the facilities were inaugurated in 1984. Indeed, the water park was only Europe’s second attraction of its type at the time.

Times change, though, and the management team behind the more-than-60,000-square-metre park know they can’t depend on heritage appeal alone. That’s why, as reported by SUR in English, the attraction is very much looking to the future, with an ambitious renovation plan to mark its 40th anniversary.

What will that mean for you, as a traveller taking advantage of Simply Shuttles’ Málaga Airport transfers to reach Aqualand Torremolinos in just 10 minutes? Well, it is set to mean all the park’s attractions – over its 14 main areas – being updated over the coming five years or so.

But you won’t have to wait very long for something new!

Yes, that’s right; this season will see the launch of the park’s Huracán attraction. This consists of thrilling slides such as the 110-metre-long boomerang slide, with its 11-metre height and 53% incline, as well as three central slides, which serve up no shortage of adrenaline with their 500-metre drops.

That’s before one even mentions what Aqualand Torremolinos has hailed as the “real jewel in the crown” of Huracán; the spectacular Super Bowl, which is 125 metres long and 15 metres wide. It all means that holidaymakers in this part of the Costa del Sol can be assured of plentiful enthralling experiences both in and out of the water this summer.

Looking ahead, as reported by SUR in English, the water park’s director David Gómez has said that the Kamikaze attraction is set for total renovation next year. In this area of the park, another theme – a giant volcano – will be created, making the most of the existing tower.

All in all, modernisation is the name of the game at the park that Torremolinos mayor Margarita Del Cid has described as “one of the obligatory stops on the Costa del Sol”. But don’t worry if you’re planning a trip to the park this summer, as only the works that do not disturb customers will be carried out during the tourist season, with others taking place after the summer.
