So, the summer is effectively over for another year! However, there are plenty of people in the UK who are currently booking vacations to the Costa del Sol, in order to soak up some sun at a slightly lower intensity than is typically seen during the peak July and August days.
If you’re one of them – and perhaps also arranging some timely, convenient, and great-value Málaga Airport transfers with Simply Shuttles – it might interest you to learn that online review platform Tripadvisor has released its Summer Travel Index.
The site came up with its ranking – as also reported by the Express – after looking at which destinations were most popular among Britons travelling to take advantage of late summer sun. And it turned out that pretty Benalmádena, the Andalucian town located just 12 kilometres west of Málaga, came out on top.
A “lovely quiet place” that also feels more British than visitors may expect
Known for its alluring beaches, charming Old Town, and around 320 days of sunshine per year, Benalmádena has a lot to offer to UK nationals who are seeking out a true holiday idyll. And with about a third of the town’s 17,300 residents being British expats, it is fair to say that tourists from the UK will feel that “home from home” feel in this beautiful part of the Costa del Sol.
Speaking of the Old Town – which is also known as the “Old Village”, or Benalmádena pueblo – it turns out to be so good, that it is the highest rated Benalmádena attraction on Tripadvisor.
In the words of one reviewer quoted by the newspaper, the Old Town is a “lovely quiet place. We did a walking tour around the pueblo and it’s very nice. The church is beautiful and well worth a visit. The view from the top is excellent.”
With other major attractions in the locality encompassing the likes of the picturesque Parque de la Paloma, the child-friendly Butterfly Park, and the classy marina with its must-not-miss bars and restaurants, it isn’t difficult to tell why Britons rate sun-drenched Benalmádena quite so highly.
These sites and activities enabled the town to beat such other destinations in Tripadvisor’s list as Georgioupolis in Greece and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Two other Spanish locations also made the top four: Peguera and Nerja.
